New Mercurius Software Helps You Find the Words to Search the Web London, 5th July 2004 Silvawood Software has released Mercurius, a search tool for narrowing down web searches. It addresses a problem familiar to many users of search engines: too many results. Unlike metasearch tools which compound the problem, Mercurius helps you to quickly reduce the number of results, making it easier to eliminate the irrelevant and find what you want. When you perform a search using Mercurius, you are shown lists of the words and phrases found in the search engine results. If you find that your initial search was too broad in scope, you can focus it by adding to the search terms any listed words you think are relevant. On repeating the search, you will be rewarded with fewer results of greater relevancy. The real power lies in being able to iterate this process as many times as you like, until you have reduced the results to a manageable number. For example, imagine doing a search on "William Shakespeare", which would normally return more than a million results. In Mercurius' lists of phrases and words you find "Ben Jonson" and "quote", which you add to the search terms. Repeating the search now returns just a few hundred results, the first few of which give Jonson's famous quote about Shakespeare being "not of an age, but for all time". In addition to guiding you to keywords that would give better results, Mercurius can reveal connections that you didn't know existed, and jog your memory as to what exactly you're looking for. Mercurius can use most search engines and metasearch sites to perform the actual search, and requires MS Internet Explorer v4 or later. You can download a free version of Mercurius from the Silvawood Software web site at www.silvawood.co.uk. ENDS FACT SHEET Screen Shot System Requirements:
